Welcome to my website!
I’m a writer of stories, plays, but mainly children’s poetry. I’ve had lots of poems published in anthologies with Otter-Barry Books, Macmillan, Bloomsbury, and lots more.
My work doesn’t feel like work. I love my job! Visiting schools is joyous, inspiring children to fall in love with poems and help them to write their own. I work with children of all abilities. Children who love poetry and would love to learn more techniques and poetry styles, children who have never before written a poem, I work with children who lack confidence in their writing or find literacy in general, hard. My nurturing approach means that every child leaves my workshops feeling proud of themselves and with higher self-esteem. As a member of Authors Abroad (www.authorsabroad.com) I also work with Brian Moses’ Able Writing Scheme. I am also a member of the prestigious author agency, Authors Aloud (www.authorsalouduk.co.uk)
Special Needs: I work with children with special educational needs (ADHD in particular.) Poetry can be a great tool for encouraging focus! In addition, I have taught children with EAL who have little or no knowledge of English, to compose a poem. Yes! It is possible! School visits: Whole school assembly reading from my new collection for KS2 children ‘Where Do Wishes Go? Followed by class workshops around poetry writing. I also conduct writing workshops inspired by classical music from Year 4 upwards.
My mission is to inspire children to love the written and spoken word. There is no better feeling than seeing a child who, in the morning, was under confident and anxious, walking out at home time waving their poem saying "I didn't know I could do this."
